After you’ve given testimony, there is still more to be done. An experienced North Carolina Social Security disability lawyer can help prepare you for this.

After You Testify

Your North Carolina Social Security disability lawyer will then hear testimony and ask questions of the people you have engaged to speak in your behalf. You should have one person at the very minimum. Your witnesses help to show the judge how your impairments impact your life from one day to the next, and their perceptions can shed light on aspects previously unsuspected.

The Experts

Once your witnesses have concluded their statements, your North Carolina Social Security disability lawyer will call for testimony from medical and vocational experts or other types of specialists.

As The Hearing Closes

At this point, the judge will ask for any additional or closing remarks from you. It is your North Carolina Social Security disability attorney’s responsibility to make the concluding remarks that complete the arguments in your behalf or to present them in written form. Do not attempt to do this yourself.

The Decision

Normally, neither you nor your North Carolina Social Security disability attorney will be told immediately whether you have won or lost the case. In some cases, a judge may give the decision at the hearing. This is called a “bench decision”. It is followed by a brief written decision, which is sent by mail to you shortly after the hearing. Your attorney will also receive a copy. A regular decision issued by the judge will take longer.
